Even with the school year almost coming to a close, the Yakima School District still recognizes important dates as reasons to take the day off from school.

Wasn't there just a day off?

Well, yes, for Eisenhower High School. They had a state tournament held at the school so they just used those days as days off for students who weren't participating.

And with the last day of school coming up very soon, there's still time to take an extra day off as needed.

Why is Friday, June 6 a holiday?

Treaty Day is celebrated on June 6th in the Yakima Valley this year. Yakima Public Schools may be out, but there will be events happening including one in Toppenish at the cultural center.

White Swan will also be hosting a Treaty Days event all weekend.

I'm sure there will be other Powwows and other events happening throughout the Yakima Valley as well.

This is just a Washington State thing. Schools across the country are not taking June 6th off for this. Yakima Public School is and that's the way we need to know.

So come this Friday, and I'm sure your kids will already know it's a day off, know that you don't need to set your alarm so early.
