Is Cheese Messing With Washingtonian’s Dreams?
Say it isn’t so! Cheese may give you nightmares? If this is actually true, then Freddy Krueger better add some cheese graters to his striped sweater along with his knife gloves because it might turn into Elm Street here in Yakima, Washington!
Sometimes science gives us great things like the ability for me to write about this news, and the ability for you to read this news. Then it screws up and gives us the news that I’m about to share, which really makes me agree with Patton Oswalt about science.
"We're science! All about coulda, not shoulda."
– Patton Oswalt
Well, if this news is true, it’s not GOUDA (see, I can make jokes too, bad ones, but still).
The Study Says Cheese Can Be Scary
According to a peer-reviewed study that was published in Frontiers in Psychology, it is true that eating cheese can cause nightmares.
Granted, it seems to occur more in people who are lactose-intolerant, and it’s not just cheese, but any type of dairy, especially later in the day.
This has been a long-rumored theory, but thanks to the study, headed by Tore Nielsen, professor at Université de Montréal, we now have the stats that back it up, which he shared with VegNews.
There is a good side to this. If you do find yourself having bad dreams, maybe don’t have that plate of nachos while binging horror movies before bed. So, like most things in life, changing your habits (especially eating) may help your sleep.

But then again, it’s cheese, and we love cheese. Maybe I’ll just learn how to control my dreams and enjoy my cheese wheel in every level of inception possible. What about the rest of you in Washington? Tap the App and let me know.
