When my wife told me how our friend Gloria was swinging by and dropping off chocolate Twinkies for us to try and review, I had one response to her.

"It's called a zinger; they're not new."

To which she replied, "No, it's a Twinkie, you'll like it!"

For the record, I like Twinkies, but my wife does not. I don't think they have the same taste as they did before Hostess was almost out of business, or I'm just getting older.

Gloria dropped off the not-Zinger, and I ate it. Here's the review!

Like with all my 'Timmy Tries' articles, I'm not being paid to eat or review this stuff. One day, maybe, but not today. My friend Gloria bought them because she knows I enjoy doing this stuff and I do reimburse her for her troubles in friendship!

Taste Test of Limited Edition Spooky Twinkies

It's a chocolate Twinkie. It tastes the way a chocolate Twinkie should taste.

The cake part was a little denser than expected, and I was a little bummed. At first glance at the packaging, I expected the filling to be purple or some flavor, but no, it was standard filling.

2nd Opinion Taste Test of Limited Edition Spooky Twinkies

Like I stated above, my wife is not a fan of Twinkies. She thinks they smell like Play-Doh, and she's just never been a fan. (I know, and I still married her).

She did like these better than the original Twinkies. If you wanted a couple of bites of chocolate cake, these aren't bad, but you might as well grab a couple of Hostess Ding Dongs.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
