The Washington State Department of Transportation (DOT) is hopeful that Highway 410 will reopen by the end of the day Sunday.

According to the Yakima Herald, the DOT is using excavators, front-end loaders and other trucks to clear the road.

The landslide occurred in a similar location as one in October 2009 though officials note that this one did not damage any homes and was due to a different cause.

Currently the highway is closed approximately nine miles west of Naches on Highway 410 at mile marker 105 and continues to mile 108.

There is a detour through Nile Loop Road set up so that cars can still travel the highway but it will be slower going.
