Police say some demonstrators protesting the grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri, got onto Interstate 5 in Seattle, where highway officials briefly closed all northbound lanes.

Elsewhere, officers say Seattle protesters have hurled bottles and rocks. At least two arrests have been reported.

Police said late Monday night they had removed several protesters from the freeway. The state Transportation Department announced a short time later that closed freeway lanes had reopened. Police also cautioned drivers that they had reports of rocks being thrown onto I-5.

The Seattle Times reports that Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole said she believed there had been at least two arrests.

There were no reports of injuries.

The mayhem began after Seattle protesters spent several hours marching peacefully. The Times reports that police responded with pepper spray and percussion grenades.

Shortly before midnight, the roving crowd was estimated at about 200 demonstrators.

Thousands across the country are protesting a grand jury decision not to indict a white police officer who killed an 18-year-old black man in Ferguson, Missouri, last August.
