Cuts Like a Knife – India Show Canceled

Veteran Canadian rocker Bryan Adams will play Yakima's Capitol Theater on April 14 but it's not so smooth sailing on his current Indian Tour. The ongoing five-city India tour hit a hiccup, the New Delhi gig was canceled after police denied concert promoters permission due to “security” and “traffic” concerns.

Tour promoters Netsurf Entertainment -- co-owned by Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty – were refused a "No Objection" certificate by Delhi Police. “We denied (the promoters) permission for valid reasons. They didn't have the right security or traffic arrangements in place. Law and order would’ve been a serious issue at this concert,” a senior Delhi Police official was quoted as stating. Another concern was the fact that that organizers had oversold tickets, leading to a possibly larger crowd than expected.

With promoters frantically pursuing authorities for permission, confusion reined until late Monday night when on his Twitter account, Adams posted, “There are so many more people than they expected coming to the show, that they are concerned about security... Police have canceled the New Delhi concert tonight due to public safety.” Adams, 51, kicked off his India tour in the western city of Pune, after which he played to a sell-out, 20,000-strong crowd in Mumbai with some top Bollywood stars in attendance. Following Sunday's Bangalore gig, Adams was scheduled to perform in New Delhi Tuesday, but with the concert cancelled, the rocker will round off the tour as scheduled, hitting the stage Wednesday in the southern city of Hyderabad.

Expectedly, disappointed fans expressed their anger online, eager to know if another Delhi date would be announced with unconfirmed reports Wednesday indicating that there could be a possible Sunday date at a different venue on the outskirts of the city. “He's (Bryan's) definitely coming back to Delhi. We won't disappoint his fans,” said Shetty whose wife supports charity organization Save the Children for which the concerts were also a fundraiser. Meanwhile, Adams' tour will take him this week to Bangladesh and Nepal. Adams has been a frequent India visitor having first performed in Mumbai in 1995. (Hollywood Reporter)
