Which sounds better?  Working out on you own at the gym OR taking up a sport?  Time magazine on line reports on a new study that addresses that question published in BMJ Open .

If you picked playing a sport  you are more likely to stay healthy and fit as you get older compared to those who do other types of physical activity.

Researchers looked at data from more than 3,400 men, collected over 20 years. They discovered men who were physically active in their 40s and 50s were nearly three times as likely to be active in later decades, compared to those who were sedentary in middle age.

Even if you started playing your sport late into mid-life you are more likely to be active in old age compared to those who didn't play at all. (Time)
