If Zillah High School science teacher Jeff Charbonneau wins $1 million dollars in 2015 he says he wants to impact lives. Charbonneau, the 2013 National Teacher of the Year is a finalist in the Varkey GEMS Foundation Global Teacher prize and he tells KIT News. "It is a million dollars paid out to one teacher worldwide. And I've already committed that if I do end up winning it that half that money would go back into the Zillah School District and other districts in the area." He says he'd use the other half to pay off bills and invest. Charbonneau is on a list of 16 U.S. teacher finalists. The winner will be announced on March 16. The prize is $100,000 to be paid out over the next ten years.
