Renovations at Yakima's Zaepfel Stadium is now just weeks away from getting started. The Yakima School Board has agreed to spend $4.5 million to renovate the aging stadium. Zaepfel will get a new track, field turf and lights. Work will get started as soon as classes end the first week in June.If all goes as planned, the renovations will be complete for football in the fall. The first game on the new field turf is set for Sept. 12, when the Davis Pirates host Walla Walla. Zaepfel Stadium is a Yakima School District facility and is the home field for both Davis and Eisenhower.

At the same time Zaephel is being renovated, new ball fields will be built to the south of the stadium. This is the final phase of the new Eisenhower High School construction project, which includes baseball and fastpitch fields, football and soccer practice areas along with tennis courts. Those fields won't  be available until the fall of 2015.
