If you HAVE to start every day with a cup of coffee and NEED to have more before each day is done, you can probably blame your ancestors.  A new study finds that your genes may be to blame. Researchers have found that a gene known as PDSS2 affects have caffeine is metabolized in our bodies - PDSS2 slows the metabolism of it.

So for people with the gene variant, caffeine stays in the blood longer, which gives them a bigger boost from every cup of coffee.  Time says the gene is believed to regulate the production of proteins that do the metabolizing so the theory is that people with higher levels of this gene are metabolizing caffeine slower, and that's why they're drinking less. Other previous gene analysis studies have found six other distinct genetic markers tied to a person's responsiveness to their morning coffee.
