The National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is set for this Saturday (May 9) in Yakima. It's the 23rd year of the event.

All you do is place your non-perishable food near your mailbox on Saturday morning and letter carriers will pick it up. The food helps food banks and the Yakima Union Gospel Mission. Mission Director Rick Phillips says "we'll feed more than 146,000 meals every year. So any help goes a long way to helping the poor in our area."

Phillips says the food drive’s timing is crucial.  Food banks often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. By springtime the shelves are empty.

It's simple to help out. Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox this Saturday and your letter carrier will make sure your food gets delivered to local food banks and the Yakima Union Gospel Mission.
