There’s a pretty good chance that with the heat that continues to roll through the valley, I will seeks the air conditioned comfort of a movie theater this weekend.  Right now it’s looking like the next Terminator movie. But is it something I will have seen before?  Have you already seen it, or ALL the stories there are to tell?  Perhaps.According to a report by the Daily Mail there are only six basic storylines for ALL works of fiction!

Matthew Jockers from the University of Nebraska has used a computer system to analyze more than 40 thousand novels, and he says their plots all boil down to just six distinct storylines.

The computer program, called Syuzhet, focused on the emotional journey of each novel, and determined those emotional patterns can be broken down into just two categories and then divided into three sub-groups. The two most basic categories are "man on a hill"-- a mainly positive story where there is a midway peak--- and "man in a hole"-- which tends to focus on characters who get into trouble and then back out again.

Forty six percent of the novels Jockers studied fell into the "man in a hole" category. (Daily Mail)

Now apply that analysis to the plotlines of movies and in particular Terminator Genisys and what we have is not just a man in a hole but an entire civilization! Let’s hope Arnold can pull us all out-again!
