Yakima's homeless population was a topic of discussion during Tuesday's city council meeting. Joan Davenport, Director of Community Development says voted to close the homeless encampment on South 3rd Street on November 18. "We have to give legal notice to the people in the camp because they have to have time to figure out what they'll do." Each person will be notified in the camp beginning Today. People have the option of going to a cold weather shelter, the Union Gospel Mission or other service agencies for help during the winter months. Davenport says the property won't be open next year but the city will work during the winter months to find another location, possibly even a permanent location for next spring and summer.
