The Yakima Police Department's first female officer has passed away. Alice Bachison was 94 years old when she passed away on Wednesday, July 8th.
Originally from Tacoma, Bachison joined YPD in 1951 when she was hired by Harold Robinson, the police chief at the time.

She went on to enjoy a 32-year career with the department and helped to pave the way for more women to serve as officers and other positions.

Now, nearly 11% of the Yakima Police force is female.

Bachison retired from the YPD in 1983.

A graveside internment ceremony for Bachison will take place on Tuesday, July 28th at 9:30 a.m. at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Following the internment, a memorial service will take place at Rainier Memorial Center on Terrace Heights Drive.
