A piece of steel from the World Trade Center 911 attacks is now hanging in a frame at Carpet One in Yakima, a company that's agreed to help build homes for disabled veterans. A group of New York City firefighters started the project to help build 200 "smart homes" across the country for veterans with serious injuries. Those firefighters are now traveling around the country thanking local businesses who are donating to the "Building for America's Bravest " project. NYC firefighter John Turkus visited Carpet One with a framed piece of steel from the World Trade Center...to say thank you. "There's a lot of individuals coming back who are fighting for our freedoms who are severely injured. We can't give them back what they've lost but we can help them at least live a little easier." 46 homes across the country have already been completed through the program the others are expected to be completed over the next year with your help. Carpet one flooring on west walnut in Yakima is taking your donations to help the vets. The smart homes are going to veterans with severe injuries. The smart home allows them to control many different aspects of the home by using an I-pad or smartphone. Carpet One in Yakima is helping by donating all of the flooring for one of the smart homes being built in Seattle. They're also taking donations at their store to help finance the other homes.
