Yakima's winter shelter for the homeless is now open in a building at 1702 Englewood Avenue. Transform Yakima Together Director Andy Ferguson says he expects about 50 people initially and could grow to a capacity of 72 people and pets. Ferguson says the challenge now will be to make sure everything is monitored and safe. "Because of it's size it's going to be harder to monitor everything. Unlike Camp Hope where you could step outside and see everything."
Because of the larger size and the possibility of more people served there's a huge need for volunteers and food donations. You can stop at the shelter anytime between now and next march to help out. the shelter is located at 1702 Englewood Avenue.
