Monday was Memorial Day 2018 and ceremonies were held in the Yakima Valley and across the state to honor soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Yakama Nation Warriors Association held a ceremony at Sarg Hubbard Park in Yakima. Vic Wood is Commander of the group. "As we walk through the headstones in the cemetery. Those headstones tell a story. They have a beginning and an end. And those are the people we honor Today."
Yakima Warrior Byron Kent hosted the event in front of the Korean/Vietnam Memorial walls inscribed with the names of fallen veterans from the Yakima Valley. The ceremony ended with a somber speech from Shawn Marceau of White Swan, a Gold Star father who's son was killed in Afghanistan in 2011.
Other ceremonies were held in the valley including a ceremony at Tahoma Cemetery on Monday morning.
