A name change is coming to Yakima Valley Community College. As of June 1 it'll be known as Yakima Valley College. President Dr. Linda Kaminski says the change was driven by students who wanted the school go back to its original name for a very specific reason...to help them get a job. "In some parts of the country their degrees might not be respected or valued because it's just unusual in that part of the country for a community college to issue a baccalaureate degree"
YVC offers two bachelor of applied science degrees. This fall the school will offer its third degree in dental hygiene with a fourth planned for fall 2017.
The name change happens on June 1. Kaminski says it'll be a gradual change over the next year from signs to letterhead.
