As Yakima city officials struggle with a place for homeless people to camp on city property officials at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission say more than 100 beds are available everyday if people want help in changing their lives. Mission Executive Director Rick Phillips says however that some people simply don't want help but want handouts. "It really does come down to do we want to enable people are do we want to help them. We're all about helping people. Helping to rehabilitate and returning them to the community." Phillips says those who choose to stay at the mission must stop using drugs and or alcohol. He says last year more than 1200 people asked for and received help from the mission, changing and restoring their lives. Phillips says only time will tell if the city is taking the correct approach.
