Yakima Trout Racing Tips The Scales For Fun [PHOTOS, VIDEO]
Horse racing, the sport of kings, has its triple crown. The hopes and dreams of Middle Eastern elites rise and fall on the galloping lopes and bobbing humps of the Arabian camel races. But here in the Pacific Northwest, the pot of gold for racing champions lies at the end of the rainbow-the rainbow trout that is.
Once again, for what now must be a decade or more, excited and determined youngsters, gathered at the the Yakima Valley SunDome for the Central Washington Sportsmen Show. There they donned team T-shirts, carried trout-themed signs and staged at the starting line of a five-meter-long five-inch shallow swimming pool to cheer on their slimy, shiny, shimmering swimmers. It's finny, funny, fabulous fun. No skill, no preparation -- no problem. It's totally random, luck of the draw excitement with the winners of four preliminary heats moving on to the finals.
Great sports- Bi-Mart, again provided the grand prizes of fishing poles, tackle and more and every participant walked away with something cool in addition to the memory of a quick, chaotic and one of a kind competition.
It's fun to stage, fun to watch, fun to participate in and that's the trifecta of fun for this racing phenomenon.
Trout racers, we hope to see you at the track next February or at the lakes, rivers and fishing ponds this summer. Until then, enjoy some of the moments from this year's Townsquare Media Central Washington Sportsmen Show trout races.
