Work continues at the Yakima Sports Complex on South 38th Avenue in Yakima to open up green fields to soccer, football, golf and lacrosse.

Kerry Martin, president of SOZO Sports, says they've been busy this spring preparing fields and mowing grass. Grass is growing on the 13 fields, eight of which will be available for play by Aug. 12.

The city of Yakima partnered with SOZO Sports to make the facility a reality. Martin says an economic study shows total spending of $10 million within the first five years of operation. The city contributed $4.1 million and another $3.5 million has been donated, but Martin says more is needed to complete the $14 million facility.
