Yakima Police Working With Feds To Tackle Gang Crime

The Yakima Police Department and four federal agencies will be teaming up to take on gang activity in the city starting next month.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI will join 10 Yakima officers in joint investigations into crimes by gangs, such as gun trafficking.
Homeland Security has assigned an agent from San Francisco to Yakima to help pursue racketeering charges, which serve to prosecute higher gang members who may not have committed a crime but knew it took place or ordered it.
The task force will have oversight from both the Yakima police department and the federal agencies involved.
