Yakima Police are hoping to work more closely with federal officials this year to combat the area's gang problems.

Capt. Rod Light says they are meeting with officials from the ATF, DEA and FBI. He says, “Whatever we can come to the table with collectively and use to put these guys away for many many years that’s what we’re going to do.”

Light says they want to work closer with federal officials and federal prosecutors who can possibly use federal laws to put more gang members in prison for longer periods of time.

The meeting is set for Monday morning at the Yakima Police Department. Light says it is the first in a series of meetings planned with federal officials.
