Yakima Police are searching for the driver of a car that fled after hitting three young girls walking home from school Monday.

Officials say the three were walking in the old Wards parking lot near 24th Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard at about 2:40 p.m. when they were hit from behind. The girls ages 7, 8 and 10 were thrown onto the hood and then the ground where they suffered injuries. The male driver did not stop and was last seen speeding off in an older model black 4-door sedan.

Another driver stopped to help the girls until police and medics arrived. Two of the girls were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police say the car involved may have front end or hood damage as the victims were thrown onto the hood after impact.
