Yakima police continue to prepare a new fleet of police vehicles that will soon be on the streets.

The city recently purchased 73 new vehicles. That included 54 SUV's, 10 unmarked cars and 9 marked sedans. As of today the city has received 35 SUV's and a majority of the sedans.

City officials hope to have 30 of the new vehicles ready to hit the street by the end of the year. Each vehicle will belong to specific officers who will use the cars and drive them around while both on and off duty.

The aim by city officials is to increase police presence throughout the city.
