The Yakima Police Department placed spokesman Mike Bastinelli on paid administrative leave Tuesday until an internal investigation conducted by the department’s Professional Standards Office is complete. A news release from the department didn't give any details about why Bastinelli was placed on leave. Bastinelli wouldn't comment on the action on Tuesday afternoon.
The investigation, according to interim Chief Gary Jones, was based on an incident that happened during the summer months.
The investigative reports will now be passed to Yakima City Manager Cliff Moore for review. Moore could allow Bastinelli to tell his side of the story during a future hearing, but no decision has been made.
Bastinelli has been the spokesman for the Yakima Police Department since 2014.
Here's the news release from the Yakima Police Department:
"Effective immediately, the Yakima Police Public Information Specialist, Mike Bastinelli has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation that was conducted by the department’s Professional Standards Office."
