This is National Peace Officers Memorial Week, and earlier today (May 17) the Yakima Police Department Honor Guard staged a ceremony to honor the many officers who have died in the line of duty nationwide.

Honor Guard members paid respect by standing watch over the names of the officers who lost their lives in 2016, honoring their dedication to service and their ultimate sacrifice.

Last year in the U.S., 145 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty, 63 of them by gunfire.

The Honor Guard stood watch throughout the noon hour at the Yakima Police Department on Third Street. Here's what it looked like:
