The Yakima Police Department is hoping to find future officers in a special recruitment push this week as the department faces a shortage like other departments around the country.

Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says YPD is looking for 11 officers. He says they're holding public safety testing this week in Yakima for those 21 and older who want to get into law enforcement.

"What we need people to do that are interested, they need go to the publicsafetytesting.com website and sign up by Wednesday," Bastinelli explained. The testing is Friday in Yakima.

Candidates will need to pass background and polygraph tests, as well as a medical exam. The entire process takes about three months.
Bastinelli says positions are also available in the Yakima County Corrections Department. For more information go to publicsafetytesting.com
