It was nothing like the flood of 1996, but Monday's flooding did force some residents from homes in Yakima and Tieton.

Things are quickly returning to normal, though, says Scott Miller, executive director of the Yakima County Office of Emergency Management. He says a combination of mountain snow melt and rain lead to the high water and overwhelmed Cowiche Creek Monday, flooding six to 10 homes in the Cowiche area.
"The water came down the canyon and when it got down to Powerhouse road there was just too much water. So instead of going into the Naches River, it took a right turn and headed down through the orchard and into the trailer park," Miller says.

About 10 homes inside the Riverview Mobile Park experienced some flooding, too, he adds. And drivers saw high water close the intersection of  40th avenue and Powerhouse Road. The intersection opened late Monday night.

Everyone is back in their homes today, and road repairs in the Cowiche and Tieton areas are underway, but Miller says damage in minimal. Miller says they're watching the creeks and rivers and don't expect anymore flooding this week.
