Col. John J. Wiesenberger is falling apart...the statue located at Yakima and Naches avenues is a memorial to fallen soldiers from Yakima who died in the Spanish/American war...it was first placed in Yakima in 1902...Jan Lowell of Yakima is part of the effort to raise funds to restore the statue...but she says they were recently told the original statue can't be saved...so instead of the 20 thousand dollars needed for a restoration. Lowell says it could now cost close to 50 thousand dollars...to create a granite and bronze statue and base. Allied Arts of Yakima has set up a non profit account for donations...call 966 0930 for more information. The statue was placed in Yakima in 1902.
