A 23-year-old man is expected to plead guilty to a charge of second-degree manslaughter after a jury was unable to convict him on other charges in a trial earlier this month.
Dylan Dixon is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 13 to time served.
A Yakima County Superior Court jury last week couldn't agree on charges of first-degree manslaughter and felony second-degree murder in connection with the November 2016 death of 53-year-old John Barret during a fight in downtown Yakima. Dixon told authorities he and Barret were in a fight and he was trying to protect himself from being beaten with a hammer ... but the jury was unable to reach an agreement on the charges, so the judge declared a mistrial.
And this week the Yakima County Prosecutor's Office announced a plea agreement rather than retry Dixon on the murder charges.
