A 20-year-old man is dead and his 18-year-old friend is facing a charge of first degree manslaughter after an accidental shooting at a Yakima apartment on Tuesday afternoon. Yakima Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says the 18-year-old was handling a gun when it fired striking the victim in the abdomen. "The detectives were able to talk to the 18-year-old friend and it was determined that there was negligence so he's facing a charge of first degree manslaughter."
Bastinelli says the after the shooting the 18-year-old called 9-1-1. When officers arrived they found the victim in an apartment. He was taken to a Yakima hospital but died early Wednesday morning.
The shooting is the 13th fatal shooting in the city so far this year.
