A Yakima Police K-9 is dead today. Authorities say 3-year-old Havoc, a German shepherd, jumped a fence Sunday and was struck by a vehicle in the 5000 block of Summitview Avenue.

Havoc was rushed to an emergency vet clinic, where doctors discovered Havoc had a ruptured spleen and was bleeding internally. They began emergency surgery right away, but his injuries were too severe and he passed away during surgery around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Police say Havoc was not working and was at his handler's home when he jumped the fence and was struck in the street.

The Yakima Police Department now has three K-9s on the department.

Havoc would have turned 4 in November. He was certified as part of the K-9 unit when he was just 2 years old in May 2013. Over his career Havoc had dozens of deployments and multiple finds.

This summer the Yakima Police Department also said goodbye to two retiring K-9s, Lector and Brutus.
