Heading for the Westside this weekend?  There’s always plenty to do and see in the big city but the thing that always sends us happily towards home in the Yakima Valley is the traffic, right?  I mean we all THINK the traffic is congested "over there" but now we have the confirmation.

Car services company INRIX, a Kirkland, Washington-based transportation data firm, put together a list of the most congested cities in America based on commute times --and how much time --on average-- commuters in each city spend in their cars sitting in gridlock traffic.

The Emerald City could be colored moss green-as in moss growing on a damp and unmoving line of cars in the nation's Number Six worst congestion

Here’s the top-10, along with the average hours a commuter in that city spent sitting in traffic last year:

  1. Honolulu; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 49
    9. Atlanta; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 59
    8. Chicago; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 60
    7. Boston; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 64
    6. Seattle; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 66
    5. New York; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 73
    4. Houston; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 74
    2. (tie) Washington, DC and San Francisco; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 75
    1. Los Angeles; Average hours spent sitting in traffic: 81

And if you think traffic in these cities is bad, consider Europe’s worst offenders! London

ranks first in congestion , with an average of 101 hours sitting in traffic and the number two European city is Stuttgart, with 73 wasted hours.
