Yakima's homeless encampment called Camp Hope is supposed to close on November 17 when city cold weather shelters open. But the camp could stay open permanently. The Yakima City Council Tuesday heard from Camp Director Andy Ferguson about the continued success of the camp and talked about keeping the camp open throughout the year. It's located on city property behind the former K-Mart on East Nob Hill Blvd. City officials plan to meet with Ferguson to talk about keeping the camp open and what zoning changes would need to be made to make that happen.
