Walmart has announced a hunger effort that will generate more than 42 million meals and provide $2M in donations nationwide between now and April 30th. Yakima has been selected as one of 200 communities where unemployment rates are the highest, according to the Department of Labor. As part of Walmart’s Fighting Hunger Together initiative, the company is holding a Facebook campaign where the winning community will receive $1 million in grants and the next 20 communities with the most support will receive $50,000. Residents are urged to vote each day for Yakima leading up to April 30th when the winners are selected. Funds will be distributed to local organizations that are making significant impacts on fighting hunger.

Additionally, Walmart customers will have the opportunity to personally direct meals to Feeding America food banks nationwide and to Action for Healthy Kids through the purchase of select products and other digital activations like a QR code campaign.
