Yakima firefighters were busy Wednesday with a series of fires. The first was a grass and brush in a field reported at about 3:30 p.m. near South 88th Avenue and Wide Hollow Road. Fire officials say the fire was caused by someone mowing the field when the mower hit some rocks causing sparks that lead to the fire. The next fire happaned a short time later at about 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 2000 block of Willow Street. No one was injured but the home was damaged. The cause remains under investigation. Then at about 6:00 p.m. firefighters were called to a what investigators say was a suspicious brush fire on the Yakima Greenway pathway at the Highway 24 bridge. The fire was about 100 square feet burning below the bridge. It was quickly doused and firefighters say it was caused by someone using fireworks in the area.
