Yakima firefighters battled flames in two fires Today. The first was reported at about 2:30 a.m. at the Canal Apartments in the 2700 Block of West Lincoln. 4 apartments were burned but 4 families escaped the flames. One resident told investigators she heard a popping noise and awoke to find her back porch on fire. Many of the units were evacuated but no injuries were reported. Firefighters say it was an accidental fire. The cause is under investigation. Then a house fire reported at about 9:00 a.m. at 1009 South First Avenue. One person was taken out of the home unharmed and no other injuries were reported. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.
