An arsonist is on the loose in Yakima.

Yakima fire department investigators say they are hoping to find the person responsible for a rash of car fires throughout the city but they are also passing on some advice to keep you from being a victim.

Capt. Tom Snyder says in all six car fires reported so far this month the cars have all been unlocked and parked in dark areas. He also notes that, ”these cars have caught two homes on fire during sleeping times.”

Snyder says all the fires have been started inside the cars on the passenger side.

Snyder says lock your car, park it in a lighted area and make sure your smoke detectors are working in your home.

Anyone who knows anything about the fires is asked to call the Yakima Fire Department at 575-6140.
