The Yakima Fire Department had a busy year in 2016. The annual fire department report has been issued and it shows that firefighters battled 466 fires in 2016 compared to 452 in 2015. But Capt. Jeff Pfaff says a majority of the calls they answer aren't for fires but rather for rescues and emergency medical service. Pfaff says "in 2016 we had 6130 calls and 2015 there were 5,940 so we did increase the number of ems calls last year."

103 people work for the Yakima Fire Department with 60 firefighters who rotate through shifts to keep the city safe.
All total the Yakima Fire Department answered 9,318 calls for service in 2016.
