On 03-22-2012 at about 5:44 pm the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office received a report that several persons in a Black sport utility vehicle had been seen breaking into a residence at 151 S Fisher Rd near Mabton.  A witness followed the suspect vehicle as it came into Mabton.  Mabton Police saw the suspect vehicle being driven recklessly in town and had been watching for it because of the burglary report.

Mabton Police attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled W/B on State Route 22 at speeds of about 100 mph for about ten miles as the vehicle was driven into oncoming lanes of traffic nearly causing several collisions.

The pursuit ended after a Yakima County Sheriff’s deputy using Stop Sticks deflated the tires of the suspect vehicle.  Near the end of the pursuit the 16 year old driver was seen tossing a semi-automatic handgun from the vehicle.  This handgun was found to have been reported stolen to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office the previous evening in a residential burglary in the Buena area.  The suspect vehicle was occupied by 2 juveniles and 3 adults.

Property stolen from the residential burglary at 151 S Fisher Rd was found in the suspect vehicle.  Prosser Police also reported a vehicle matching our suspect vehicle description had also committed a burglary in their jurisdiction shortly before this burglary was reported to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.  Property from Prosser’s residential burglary was also located in this suspect vehicle.  Each of those in the suspect vehicle at the end of the pursuit have been identified as having participated in Prosser’s burglary as well.

The 16 year old male driver is from the Buena.  He was booked into the Yakima County juvenile detention facility for Burglary, Possessing a Stolen Firearm and Attempting to Elude a Pursuing Police Vehicle.  Another 16 year old male from Buena was also booked into the Yakima County juvenile detention facility for Burglary.  Three adults were booked into the Yakima County jail for Burglary.  They include an 18 year old male from Toppenish, an 18 year old male from Buena and a 20 year old male from Toppenish.
