If you've been waiting for a child support payment in Yakima County and haven't received one, you're not alone. Yakima County has $76 million in backed up child support fees. Statewide there is $2.3 billion in owed support. Child support services say there are about 12,000 cases in Yakima County that show an outstanding debt. Officials are trying to work with non-custodial parents by creating payment plans to help them keep up with their obligations. If parents don't pay child support the government can garish wages and suspend licenses. The Division of Child Support Services say they would rather not go that route in this tough economy.
