Shaking hands and talking money. That's what city council members Mayor Micah Cawley, Dave Ettl and interim City Manager Michael Morales are doing today. The trio is in Washington D.C. lobbying federal lawmakers for dollars for the city of Yakima. It's an annual trip that costs an average of 3 to 4 thousand dollars but city officials say it's more than worth it. They say the trip has always resulted in millions of dollars returning to the city when it's time to hand out that money. City officials say it's important to show the lawmakers that the city can't be forgotten and needs the federal dollars to help with a variety of challenges including the fight against local gangs. The trio is expected to return to the valley at the end of the week.
