Yakima City Council Seeking Options to Save Money on Housing Prisoners

The Yakima City Council will consider options on how to jail their prisoners. Their contract with Yakima County expires at the end of the year and the council needs to offer direction on which option they would like to pursue.

All of the ideas save the city money and range from an exclusive contract with Yakima County to a combination of Benton County and other lower valley jails.

The Council meets at 10AM at Yakima City Hall to discuss the jail issue. They will also hear the first proposal on changing the built environment on North 1 street to continue the improvement efforts.
