What's the future of Yakima's federal voting rights case? The Yakima City Council has set an emergency meeting for 9:30 Monday (March 23) morning to talk further about the case.

Last week the city asked the federal judge to reconsider his ruling in the case filed by the ACLU. The group contends Yakima's election system doesn't give a voice to Latino voters. The judge, however, refused to reconsider the decision and now the city has 30 days to decide whether to appeal the case. Some council members want to file the appeal while others want to move forward in the case and abide by the judge's order to change the local election system.

The meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. at Yakima City hall.
