It's the new year and the Yakima City Council will meet for the first time in 2017 on January 10. City Mayor Kathy Coffey says priorities include addressing the homeless issue. "I don't know if we'll have a homeless encampment by the end of winter. The major discussion is what will happen by March when the winter shelters close. What will happen then?"
The council will also talk about the downtown plaza next Tuesday and get an update on funding. Coffey says by the end of the month the city will release a comprehensive economic plan that's been developed with the help and ideas from other organizations like New Vision and the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce.
The city meets next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Yakima City Hall.
