The Yakima City Council meets Tuesday at City Hall, and when it does it'll be dealing with an issue that was tabled during the last meeting of city leaders.

Yakima City Manager Tony O'Rourke says council members could decide to stop any future spending on the downtown plaza until a new council is seated in 2016. O'Rourke, however, believes the project should go forward. "There's a lack of a public gathering place that could generate a lot of commerce for Yakima," he says.

Councilwoman Kathy Coffey's proposal to put the project on hold was tabled two weeks ago when both Tom Dittmar and Rick Ensey were absent from the meeting. The city is expected to spend about $14 million on the project.

The council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 129 N. Second St.
