The Yakima City Council met Monday and voted to ask the 9th US Court of Appeals for a stay of the current elections. The 4-3 vote asks the court to consider a full or partial stay. The council's resolution says the council prefers the former election system as the method for voters this year. That means Kathy Coffey, Maureen Adkison, Thomas Dittmar and Rick Ensey would be up for re-election this year. The resolution also asks for a partial stay that would allow council members Bill Lover, Dave Ettl and Micah Cawley to finish thier terms but also calls for a district only voting in the four other seats on the city council.
the appeals court is expected to rule before the end of the year so the city can have a clear path to the upcoming elections.
