The Yakima City Council on Tuesday approved a new Federal partnership to fight local gang crime and it approved a proposal to name a new street being developed for the former millsite property along I-82 as Bravo Company Blvd. City council members also gave the go ahead to the Yakima branch of the Eastern Washington Violent Gang Safe Streets Task Force.
The council voted to file an appeal of the $1.8 million in legal fees that a judge in the federal voting rights case awarded to the American Civil Liberties Union. It's a limited appeal. The city wants to preserve the right to challenge the costs if the city is successful in an appeal with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Bins of Light art project to be constructed over the Lincoln Avenue underpass now has a fund to maintain the art. the council on Tuesday approved an agreement with the Millennium Foundation that will pay to maintain the artwork calling for the foundation to maintain a trust fund balance of $200,000 for maintaining “Bins of Light”. the $450,000 project is expected to be installed in 2016.

The council is also looking at improving access to the Yakima Air Terminal by approving a $307,000 loan and a $307,000 grant from the Yakima County Supporting Investments in Economic Diversification Board
cCty officials say they want to lengthen 21st Avenue and reposition Airport Lane to to give vehicles access to the property for development.
