Pay attention when you drive through a work zone. The message is simple and it's coming from the Washington State Department of Transportation. Spokesperson Summer Derrey at the WSDOT office in Union Gap says next week is National Work Zone Safety Awarness Week. Derrey says "more often collisions happen with drivers and the drivers are the people who get hurt." In support of the safety-awareness campaign, WSDOT will change its website from green to orange on Monday and post photos of how dot workers are showing their orange. On Wednesday the WSDOT will host it's annual worker memorial in Olympia to honor those who've been killed in workzones.

statistics show that nearly 40 percent of work zone collisions in washington involve a driver age 30 or younger.
